Liberty
11” (d) x 11” (w) x 19” (h)
glass, tin, wood, wire

As I finished drinking a Coke in the old 8-ounce bottle, I noticed that the shape was quite similar to the Statue of Liberty, a favorite landmark of mine. So I gathered lots of old green glass that I had collected from around the mill village and some green bottles and vases. I glued fragments to the surface and added pieces as needed and broke shards to fit. I purposely left the glass surface thin enough so that you can still see the white script Coke logo underneath. The flame is a piece of glass recovered from a burn pile. Because the surfaces are so jagged and the crevices so deep, I felt it was necessary to create a cover. I tried to represent the firmaments with the blue glass and fireworks with glass stars on copper wire.
